I have recently upgraded my computer from Windows ME to XP All is well EXCEPT I cannot open Access 2000 - it claims it cannot find file 'system.mdw' I have searched for this on my computer and on the CD without success. Can any one tell me where to find it & where to put it?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Unhide files by launching windows explorer and going to Tools - Folder Options - View and check the radio button "show hidden files and folders" click apply and ok.
This file is normally found at C:\Documents and Settings\Your sign on name\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.mdw If this file is missing it is probably due to msjtes40.dll in Windows\System32 folder being incorrectly registered.
Back this file up (to be on the safe side) then goto Start - Run; and enter (regsvr32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msjtes40.dll) without the brackets, click ok, you should receive confirmation that registration has been successful.
Now assuming that access 2000 is not that different from Access 2002(XP), create a System.mdw file by launching Access and going to Tools - Security - Workgroup Administrator - click on Create and follow the instructions. You might find at this point that Access has generated this file automatically so check for that at the location given above.
