Sky news reports a 'hackers contest' scheduled to take place on this coming Sunday and are warning of virus attacks. Should we all stay off line on Sunday, or not use our file sharing programs etc? Advice please!

If your worried about a Virusinfecting your PC then I really wouldnt be using file sharing programs. The thing is full of them, use some anti virus software and install a fire wall. That will offer the best protection. Don't confuse Hacking with a virus they are technically 2 different things the Sky report talks about hacking of websites so its not a virus, they said "The aim, it seems, was to break into up to 6,000 different home pages and leave them defaced." if thats the case you have nothing to worry about.
This is a defacing contest, so unless you run a web server hosting many domains you won't be touched with a proverbial bargepole.

Thanks for your advice and explanations - I think it must have been a slow day in the Sky newsroom to have made this little item into a scary story. I shan't worry about it now.
