Ummmm is right as unwashed hair is easier to control during tinting.
Rodge - the salon owner that told me about all the plastics actually alway suggested using the cheapest shampoos you can find because they don't contain as much. But I never die my hair and couldn't care less how much plastic is in my shampoo if it makes my hair smoother.
So is the dimethicone just in the shampoo? Or is it in the conditioner too?
We use L'Oreal professional conditioner in the salon that is also retailed to clients. Its a thick cream, perfumed, herbal treatment specifically for tinted hair. Only finishing products have silicone to protect the hair.

lol!! no no, that's a wig i'm wearing in that pic! i've just changed my aviator to how it looks now. I dyed my hair bright red at christmas and its faded to a very dull copper and i have about 2 inches of brown hair coming though. I wish i never dyed it to begin with, it was in really bad condition form years of changing color and i've just made it worse :-( I just wanna dye it a nice brown color that will fade to my natural color by the time my roots start coming though. Thankyou for all your tips, i will defo invest in a good conditioner and give the garnier nutrisse one a go, it;s got some good reviews on the net too. xx
It's in both Rodge. I just couldn't be bothred to type both.

Take a look at all your s&c bottles and you will find it quite high up on the list of ingredients.
If you are a reddy brown then I second the nutrisse option try washing your hair with head and shoulders a couple of times during the weeks before you may find it will help fade out a bit more of the red

Does it not have the dimethicone in it?

I'm having it coloured tomorrow (Thurs). So should I not wash it before? or can I wash it with Charles Worthington or something respectable like that?
Examined all my shampoo/conditioner stocks last night. Charles Worthington conditioner (yellow one) has got Dimethicone in it, and higher up the list than Pantene! The shampoo actually mentions the word silicone! So much for it being 'safe'. The interesting thing is that I have used it for about 1 year, and at last hair appointment stylist commented on how well my hair has taken the dye! So maybe it doesn't really matter.

I also had Aussie ColourMate Shampoo & Conditioner in my stash - it doesn't appear to have any silicone like substances in it at all - but is chock full of parabens - I think they're bad news but don't know a lot about it.

Hummmm - I wonder if they still do that Pears shampoo I had when a child.
I like the nice n easy one - it's nice on your hair.
Think it's the most popular one so it can't be too bad http://www.theranktan...uty/best-hair-colour/
