Purge your mailbox after deleting the emails.

i have no idea what you mean by purge where do i find that setting etc please.sorry email setting are not a strong point of mine.thanks for help so far please reply

hi i found how to purge and it works just want to no now will this stop them coming back to inbox on mobile as i cant purge them on there as that setting wont be there.hope that makes sence as on mobile when i delete the messiage they come back to inbox shortly after.all this has only started happeneing past month
It should stop them coming back, once the mailbox has been purged the emails are properly deleted.

To clarify, deleting messages on an IMAP server only marks the messages for deletion so they can be recovered if they've been deleted by mistake, purging the mailbox permanently deletes any mails that have previously been marked for deletion.

There may be a setting or option to do the same from your mobile, but without knowing any details about the mobile it's hard to say.

its a samsung galaxy s2, yes when i purge a email on desktop it doesnt come back when deleted on mobile.but then as soon as another email comes in on mobile i cant delete unless i first go to desktop and purge deletion again.i understand what you mean about imap but just very annoying that i cant delete from mobile to stay deleted unless i first come on desktop to delete and purge first....thanks for your help and any further info be great.ive looked at setting on mobile and there no setting for permanate deletion or anything so not sure what else to try...maybe would of been better with pop email account rather then imap.
Is purging the same as deleting or am I missing something ?
I hink you have some setting wrong, I have an S2 and I can delete mails from mobile without having to delete on laptop first

the settings on my samsung seem to be correct though, also the same thing is happening on my ipod touch but that worked fine a month ago on emails.im guessing it must be a setting on the desktop pc were the email account was first set up from.it says something about server entry.somehow i need to be able to delete emails on my mobile and do it so it deletes from the server to if that makes any sence to anyone. But ive gone through all settings and i cant find anything on mobile or on desktop.
As Chuck says, without proper information it's not possible to say for certain what the OP needs to do.

E.g. when I'm out and about my phone polls my various business and personal email addresses every five minutes or so. Some I delete from the mobile straightaway, others I may want to respond to there and then. But deleting them from my mobile doesn't delete them from the mailserver and I know they'll be waiting for me in my Outlook Inbox when I get home.

However, deleting them through Outlook DOES purge them from my mailserver, but only because that's how I've configured things.

So, the OP would need at the very least to provide more information on who there mail provider is and how they have their desktop and mobile configured to interface with it...
