We bought 2 new chickens to add to the flock :-)

They are Jersey Giants (blue lace) the biggest breed of chicken apparently.

We are keeping them isolated from the other hens in a large dog crate to stop them getting bullied for a while.

They are only 17 weeks old and as big as our adult hens, lovely nature as well.

When they're fully grown you have to watch them, they might eat your dogs.

I think you are wonderful for doing this.I would love to keep chickens but circumstances don't allow

How are the dogs getting on with the chickens in general?

I like the red/ginger chickens better. But these new ones look as if they might rule the roost (!!) when they get older.

Wolf, the dogs aren't too bad but they do circle the run and keep a close eye on them, I don't think the Jersey Giants will rule the roost as they are a quiet docile and freindly breed where as the RED ones are a cross with the Rhode Island Red being a more aggressive breed but we will see.

Hi Anne, A few have names, we have a pale RED hen called "Henrietta" a small scraggy one called "Chicken Little" and our two new ones ( Cagney and Lacey) The rest are identical and couldn't tell them apart, they just get called "Ladies" however some of their antics aren't very lady like atall!!
