if a soldier died an in english hospital due to wounds etc ,how could I find out what the person actually died of. many thanks for any help.

Then try the national archives
If his death was in an English hospital you should be able to apply to the GRO for a copy of his death certificate from the GRO (£9.25). If you want to give further details I'll try and look it up for you.
you may struggle, a fare few records where destroyed in the blitz we have struggled our selves to find info.
