If all you are looking for is cheaper insurance then don't bother, I have been a member since 1975 and have never found an insurer and that includes the one the IAM reccomend that can get anywhere near the ones I use from confused. com even though I give them the chance to drop their prices a bit.!

I must endorse the previous answers. I have been an IAM member, and an Observer for them for many years. The test is carried out by a Class 1 Advanced Police Driver and if you can satisfy him/her as to your driving skills then you are a very skillful and safe driver (approx. 80% less likely to have an accident). As for insurance I canot help you. Find your local IAM group and either visit them or contact the group secretary.
I said that that was the only reason why SOME people do it not ALL people. It would be very wrong and contraversial of me to tar you all with the same brush. Clearly you are one of the very principled drivers who is actually interested in becoming a safer driver, not just in saving money.
