Lovely to see young athletes lighting the olympic flame - welcoming in the new generation of sportspersons - and oh my - what a wonderful flame.

As each national team entered they were accompanied by someone carrying a bronze petal. These were then attached to a stem and a group of young athletes lit them and the stems rose to form a huge flame.

Fantastic idea, looked brilliant and fooled everyone.
