One thing still puzzles me about the TV parade of competitors following their respective National flags. Many flag bearers had someone to their right carrying a fairly large goldy copper coloured object in their arms. What was it - I didn't hear any comment or explanation?

The copper cones, each became part of the Olympic flame.
explained in scowie's posting http://www.theanswerb.../Question1156026.html
They were copper petals and they all came together to form a magnificent cauldron.

Thank you. I had heard of the copper petals, but hadn't imagined they would be so big that they would need a person to carry just one.
