My parents largely treated me as a little adult . I was expected to sort out all my own problems as a result I never look or expect others to help. This independence also means some difficulty in socialising . In business I found it difficult to delegate responsibility which of course increases ones workload .
In times of trouble it would have been nice to have had a sibling to discuss/share the problem with. At least I think so but I find talking to my daughters about a problem rarely helps it only confuses the matter so maybe having siblings isn't necessarily an asset.
As oldgeezer says how would I know ?

My Mum was an only child (up to the age of 12).
My Dad was an only child (a brother pre-deceased Dad's birth).
I am an only child.
My son is an only child.
I think we've all wished that we had siblings at some point......and I think that we have been equally grateful that we haven't at others.
We are all well-balanced individuals and I don't think it *is* possible to speculated what life would have been like if we had had brothers or sisters.

I wonder if I had had siblings I would have gone off and set up my own business.
I hated my time in the army I resented being told what to do with my life.
I wanted to do things my way . Working as a team is difficult for the only child unless the parents encourage the child to join clubs and organisations. Mine didn't . I tended to team up with other only children .
