When you had to park your hard drive (if your pc had one) before turning the pc off, format the floppy disks (two sizes!) before using, use cmd and switch codes to do anything.
No automatic saving of your work so all could be lost in a second.
No desktop icons, shortcuts.
Programs came on floppy disks and took an age to install. No plug and play peripherals.
Then later on that horrible screech when the modem was connecting to the dial up internet.

Now any old fool can use a new pc straight out of the box, it's that simple. I'm very happy that new computers are much cheaper than my first one, though.

Well, quite. My Tiny died on me about 4 or 5 years later and I got a Dell, which I'm using now.

About time you treated yourself to a new one, tigger.
Suppose so but I'm happy with my Dell for now. Had a few viral problems a couple of months back but everything seems to be ok now.
I remember, in DOS, writing my first .bat (batch) files and creating a directory called Belfry to keep them in. It amused me no end.........'til I found out that many people did the same.

Bats in the belfry. :)
I played with my flatmates ZX Spectrum.

After an age, with a cassette recorder screeching, I managed to land a Cessna.

I then decided it would never catch on, and couldn't see why any household would need a computer.

This was shortly after I bought a Betamax VCR.
