You're more likely to learn words and phrases that relate to subjects that interest you. This site has links to German newspapers and magazines:

Use the BBC links to hear German words spoken - use the newspapers in conjunction with google translate to read about current topics.
Is there any way you can find someone German to practice with? Speaking or just emailing/messaging when you're learnt some basics, it makes a huge difference. Helps you to learn it more naturally than a more parrot fashion way of learning too. I studied French, German and Spanish to beyond A-level and some other languages.

I did some work experience in France and it has always remained the strongest of any of my languages.
I am not very good at learning languages either but found the Michel Thomas Spanish easy enough and he also does a German course. I use his course along side the BBC one. Takes a bit to get used to his accent but his teaching methods are good.

Thx for the help.

I speak Spanish and French. Tried German twice and couldn't get to grips with it. Al those dative and nominative cases! Best thing I learnt was that if there are two verbs in a sentence then that goes at the end!

If you have a Good phone that downloads apps there are good apps for any language check to see if individual ones are for you and check comments if individual do not match your requirements then delete/unistall and try another I have used French , Chinese, and Italian with great results so give german a try
