Hi all

I may be in the market for a new TV.

Now that any pre-Olympics rush will have subsided is it likely that some good deals will be available?

TV prices are lower these days compared to just a couple of years ago. I haven't checked, but it's possible that price reduction slowed as a result of manufacturing problems for many component makers following the Japanese earthquake. If that's the case, its not just an Olympic rush that would maintain prices, but obtaining the parts. Best time to buy is, of course, right after Christmas!

I think it depends what you want. LCd/Plasma HD, Combi, 3d, Smart. Will you run the internet through it, will you use it for gaming etc.

There are always deals, but my suggestion is you think about what you want the go and ask an expert, not advertising, but I found richer sounds were quite honest and didn't pressure me.

And yes I do long for the days when you went in and asked for a TV and they said 21,24,26 inch

Oh and remember that most modern TV's use hdmi and not scart so if, like me, you had a scart DVD player well...

Argos has some good priced ones (better than Currys PC World ATM)

Agree with both John Lewis and Richer Sounds for TVs. Both excellent prices and after-sales service.

There are quite a lot of sales on anyway at the moment (regardless of the Olympics).
Someone at work (techie) told me that the Japanese are about 18 months away from producing a 3D TV that doesn`t require special glasses. If that is the case, you will certainly get a good deal then.

Just bought a 42" LG 42lk530T on a site called electronicworld.co.uk. It did not have a box which I guess means it is ex display in first class condition. Normal guarantee applies. If you do want a box you can talk to them. Service from the company was great. Only prob for you might be that you have to pick it up from one of their depots which are sited at various motorway locations around the country. It cost £330 which was £100 cheaper than Richer Sounds.
