I have a Hanns.g wide screen monitor and the image has stretched so that I have to scroll across to see the whole image the buttons for making adjustments are in an awkward position along the bottom edge of the monitor and I am having difficulties working out the correct way to get rid of this problem

have you set your display resolution to the same as your monitor?

As Howard says, you need to set the resolution to set to match that of the monitor. As you've not mentioned the model number or what operating system you are using, it's difficult to give more specific advice.
