Bradley Wiggins and Safety Helmets
26 Answers
Is Bradley Wiggins, of whom I am a great admirer (who wouldn't be!), right to call for the compulsory wearing of safety helmets for all cyclists, after the tragic death of a London cyclist?

So every cyclist that has been killed on British roads deserved to die if they were not wearing an helmet ....... ?
Or shall we just keep blaming other road users?
Well I do far more driving than cycling now but I would blame motorist for the vast majority of accidents involving cyclists.
btw
there was no need to inform me that you are not a cyclist...that was clear from the off.

In 1956, long before cycle helmets were thought off, my dad's younger brother was cycling to work and was knocked off his bike by a woman who opened her car door without looking. He fell onto his head and died three days later. He was thirty two and had two young children.
Had helmets been worn in those days I'm sure he would have stood a stronger chance of survival.
This kind of thing can still happen today and, indeed it does. Although it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act it is still something I see drivers do quite regularly to the danger of pedestrians as well as cyclists.
I taught cycling proficiency to year 6 children for 15 years and it was a strict rule. No cycle helmet-no course.
Whether or not it becomes compulsory, I'm all for it and wear my cycle helmet whenever I'm out on my bike.

not sure would make a difference if you get hit then dragged under a bus or any vehicle for that matter. What i would do though it get them to take proficiency tests and teach all cyclists that red traffic lights mean you stop. And cycling on the pavement is illegal. We have a huge problem here with cyclists, there are many more on the roads, and more are going to get hurt or killed, and that's not what anyone wants.
