Help to find out more about my pendant...

I have a beautiful pendant which has a diamanté back and a large round red stone set in the front. I don't want a valuation particularly but would like to know more about it, what the stone might be, when it might have been made etc - can anyone help? I can provide photos.

Can you say a bit more about where you got it from or how old you think it might be? Is the stone set in any kind of metal, and if so, are there any markings on it?

Hi Kiki-frog. It was a gift from my Mum about 16 years ago. I know nothing about it at all except that I think she picked it up in an antique shop. She was a canny buyer so won't have paid a lot for it so I don't think it has any worth but it is very pretty. I've posted a few photos as advised by Rocky which may help. V

That is beautiful. I would guess that the stone is probably carnelian. I've just looked in Google Images for carnelian stone set in silver, and there are loads of similar items. What a lovely gift from your mum!

I think your best bet would be to ask a jeweller to look at it.

Thanks Kiki-frog! I now know one more thing about it - it definitely looks like carnelian stone. I can't see a hallmark though so not so sure its silver. I may take it to a jeweller but would they not want a fee to appraise it? I'm curious about it but not so much I'd spend money to find out.

They probably would want a fee for a valuation, but you could always take it in and ask how much a valuation would cost, and see what sort of comments they make when you show it to them. I dont't really know, but it could be worth a try.
