got a useless desktop computer so thinking of getting a laptop.is there a way to transfer all files from one to the other.especially things like my norton security?
not really, you can copy your files like music, pics, docs etc, but software would need to be reinstalled, eithre from downloads or original/replacement disks.
For transfer the file you can use the USB cable.
For Norton security you can use following method;
First insert USB thumb drive in old pc.
Then left click and drag Norton installer file in USB drive.
Open old pc start menu and click on control panel.
Double click add or remove icon. Select Norton anti-virus program and uninstall it.
Follow all the instructions for Norton uninstall.
Eject USB drive from the pc.
Insert the USB drive into the new computer.
Double click Norton install to start Norton install wizard.
Type your email and password when required in installer.
Start Norton software and after installation
Get the live update from main menu.
Last inputs your Norton license code when required and enter to finish transfer of account to new laptop.
That’s it.
You can transfer files, documents, audio files, video files and etc… by the use of USB cable but you could not transfer installed software and you will need to reinstallation it.
Another option might be to remove the hard drive from your old PC and put it in a"caddy" or hard drive enclosure. You can then use it as a separate USB drive with no loss of data.
Put "External hard drive caddy" into Amazon. Shouldn't be much more than a fiver.
