I would expect so, unless some sort of pre-event deal for a set total amount was struck beforehand

when they play it -- it's not his original .. it is somebody elses' version of it.
so i'm uncertain of the loyalty issues in this case.
Yes take it from me ( I work in the royalty business) everytime a piece of music is played on tv it gets a royalty that is Vangelis. Even if you copied it legally, Vangelis still gets the royalty.
even though what we are hearing is not his work?
He wrote it Excel so it's his work no matter who performs it.
