the christmas season begins with the first mass of christmas usually midnight mass and continues until candlemass FEB 2nd

what auntiebertie has mentioned is ADVENT SUNDAY. which was last sunday NOV 27th this season is a penitenital time with Purple Vestments so certainly not the start of christmas, it is a time of preparation there is an hymn Advent tells us christ is near, Christmas tells us he is here, this season is on par to Lent prior to Easter and as I say Purple vestments which mean fasting but its not kept now as it is meant to mean hope this is useful to you.

hi having re read your question I would say if your looking for a Saint then it would be St Stephen dec 26th as that would be first day of christmas.
