AOG - so be damned if you do and damned if you don't - I can just imagine the howls of protest if they, the younger Royals, weren't involved in supporting the GB team - in addition, they are helping to position inward investments into the UK during the Games, the reason that DC hasn't been seen too much.

I guess they could revert to being seen smashed at nightclubs?

The Army and Forces have a long tradition of supporting their staff who take up Summer or Winter Olympic candidacy (for example the Bobsled is usually all military). They see it as honing of leadership and as an ad platform for them to attracting other quality youths. Long may it continue.

"In HM Forces?" Don't be so naive - they're as much in our armed forces as was that waste of rations, Prince Andrew, during the Falklands War in 1982.
And don't even mention the woose, Prince Edward, who couldn't even hack basic training.

No, these people are simply born into obscene privilege and are never required to "prove" themselves, yet the rest of us are nevertheless expected to tug the forelock out of reverential respect for them? Work that one out.

I'm no worshipper of the monarchy, but lots of people get time off for sports in a huge variety of occupations. In my job people get special paid leave to play rugby, football, darts and other sports against their equivalents in England and Northern Ireland, while others go to a European cross country every year, all expenses paid.

Alot of Olympic medal winners over the years have been serving in the forces at the time. Quite a few even from the special forces.
