I’m going on a Caribbean & Bahamas cruise at the end of the year . I was wondering how easy it is to buy bottles of wine ashore so that I can take them back on board ship . Are the shops/supermarkets similar to the shops in the UK? TIA
Although the booze may be confiscated by the ship’s crew – it will be returned to you when you finally disembark the ship.
You might be lucky with the crew missing the booze when you return to the ship – allowing you to consume the alcohol on board. But that is very unlikely with ships employing airport type x-ray equipment to ensure the safety of crew & passengers.
Have a good look at what it says about your particular ship - you don't want to buy stuff if it'll be taken off you, and if you are flying back here from the Caribbean, you won't be able to bring that much back with you.
We met several cruisers whilst in Antigua and they were taking advantage of the all inclusive day pass at our resort (pinapple beach) if you do go on a cruise and get a day there, you can get well bladdered for nowt.
From my experience Princess & P&O are quite easy to get booze on board. Royal Caribbean are far more stringent, I'm talking about spirits, not wine.
Think Princess and P&O do allow you to take 1 bottle of wine pp on board, who are you sailing with?
