perhaps it's intended for use in something like a warehouse?
I asked the same question on here a while ago and was told to use it, they just have a tougher filament and are used in garage inspection lamps. I have it in a table lamp and it is fine. rosy
The only thing I can think of is that it might run a bit hotter than a 'normal' bulb.
it is recommended by manufacturers that 60w max is used on ALL table lamps (due to the potential of skin burns) and in the majority of lamp shades attached to ceiling rose fittings, due to the heat output. (fire precaution) a glass envelope lamp shade may crack and splinter glass about if the *lamp (ie. *light bulb) is in close proximity. a cloth covered lampshade has the potential to firstly overheat, then scorch and then burn. that is my opinion as a qualified electrician. hope this may have cleared things a little. : )

methyl, if you have a Home Bargains near to you, they seem to always have 60w in stock. rosy

And the pound shop
Bought gls 100 watt heavy duty bulbs in Aldi begining August 2012. They say they are not suitable for household room illumination but this appears to be a loophole so they can be sold. Voltage is ok at 240 volts. Aldi also have 60 watt bulbs, same type.
I like reading and sewing, the so called energy savers are too weak, would need a secondary light source to avoid eyestrain. cemac
