Focus Estate 08 reg automatic transmission
I bought this car second hand about 3 - 4 weeks ago, it's only done about 12,500 miles and has been running really well. I had our local garage look over it for me when I bought it and they said it was fine. It has the PRND automatic gearbox and and also you can use it as a manual as well.. I was out shopping today and reversing out of a space in the car park and had tremendous difficulty putting it into drive. Eventually I managed and got home and checked transmission flid which was fine. Also whilst driving the gearbox seemed to be working well so I wondered if it was the actual transmission lever getting stuck (you can now see how little I know about cars!). I've googled it, and seen that it could be due to a fuse or a solinoid - it's going to the garage tomorrow, and it was also suggested that it might be due to a cable, but I wondered if anyone can give me some suggestions please? Thanks very much.

If so, contact them & ask if they have had any problems with the car, do not mention the G/Box, they might have got rip because of that problem, but even so, if it still gives out problem take a not of the dates / times / & log it.
excuse the obvious stupid question - you had your foot on the brake pedal whilst trying to select a gear . correct ? There is a mechanism to stop you selecting a gear without putting your foot on the brake which is possibly faulty, but i very much doubt it at this age/mileage..
What did you do to eventually get the car into gear ... ??

Thanks very much TWR and barley - sorry I didn't get back sooner - I'd forgotten that I put up the question! It turned out to be the transmissin cable - now fixed - and of tcourse the car is out of warranty! Still, I hope we get as much use out of this car as we did with my last Focus Estate - I find them very good cars.
