well, not yet, but something i am selling on ebay is now up to £10.63 after 6 bids and I only paid £8 for it in asda when it was new 2 years ago , am I obliged to point this out to the bidders? Or just laugh behind my hand and take the money and run?

You're oblighed to do an evil, Mr Burns laugh and rub your hands in glee... it's the standard procedure.
I'm withdrawing my bid. :0/
It's not down to you to tell them how much an items worth
Take the money and run - if they're stupid enough to pay more than its worth that's their problem.
Why shouldn't you get as much for your item, if the bidder thinks it is worth it the bidder will pay.
mwah ha ha ha ha ha

oooo baldric good thinking! actually after finding ourt yesterday that any ebay reciepts have to be included in your income for tax purposes i don;t think i'll be carrying on much longer with it! i've sold over £400.00 worth since mid-july and i don't want HMRC knocking on my tax code
Warning: The value of your (Asda) investment can go up as well as down.
