Does a computer cause any problems if most of the USB ports are occupied with external hardware ?

I have mouse and an external CD writer which are both connected to my computer via USB, and now i am thinking of buying an external hard drive which will also be connected via a USB. So if all or most USB ports are taken up, will this cause any problems with my computer ?

The computer should be able to cope with devices in the number of USB ports it has.

Sometimes there can be issues when using a passive USB splitter (to create extra ports) and devices which draw their power from USB (without external power supplies), such as mice or keyboards.

No doubt i'm wrong but i'm sure i once read that 127 devices can be connected to a single usb port so i assume you are quite a long way off
To be fair, I can't see that you could run 127 USB devices anywhere as it depends on what power your PSU has.
That said, if Alfie's PSU is in the region of 300-350W (and on a newer machine it will be) then he'll be fine.
