Rock Cake

Bought a rock cake from Greggs - I did not expect it to be literally that !!

Thing is , i cant even make a complaint under the trades description act

...mmm....I always enjoy a snack and coffee from Greggs, their stuff is usually so good...better watch out next time I go there..don't want to crack me false teeth :-)

I love Greggs rock cakes because they really are rocky- you don't want a soft rock cake do you? lol

commoner - it was not far off being a rock - it was tough and stale - must have been from the previous days lot

Baz that is my one gripe with Greggs..they bring out the old stuff first thing ....ask for a todays's item..they will oblige.....

Hi, Greggs do not bring out any old stuff from the day before if they have anything left over at the point of closing, they will advise the staff to take a bite of out pretty much everything and then put in the bins outside. They do this so the local homeless people don't go and help themselves.... If that's the case then why don't Greggs do the right thing and send all the of these products to the needy?

I know all this purely from the fact my son worked there...

Lol Boo.... I think it's awful though that they will advise the staff to do that but won't hand out these food stuffs to the needy.

Jesus people are going hungry and they do that?? I worked in a shelter where the homeless would come in very underweight and ill with malnutrition, and associated illness (scurvy, body lice, sores enlarged body organs-scary). All they needed was charity from someone to give them something that would be binned elsewhere!

Exactly Firewatch! I thought it was absolutely disgusting of them to do that and even encourage the staff to take bites out of the food so the poor homeless people couldn't even salvage that, not that they should do that of course. Greggs et al should be made to give the food away that they can't sell.

Surely it's possible for someone to organise collections of daily foodstuffs that are left at closing times & distribute same to the needy

Thing is WR the staff are actually encouraged to take a bite out of these foodstuffs, it is so wholly wrong.

The problem with giving leftover food to the homeless is that it only takes one to come down with suspected food poisoning and the company where the food initially came from will be looking at all kinds of lawsuits.

Yes and no, if it is fresh and checked prior to dispatch then i dont see how they could, its a much needed service and would reduce a lot of buisness waste. I know a lot of homeless/breadline families who are in sore need of relief and food.

Some friends of ours used to have a small cafe/general shop and they had an "agreement" with some guys from a charity anything that was still ok but could not be kept overnight was wrapped up and put in marked bin bags just to one side of the bins which left the charity with a food donation and my friends with deniability
