Propagating strawberries

I know that strawberry plants generally do not perform very well after about three years, but if I propagate them by layering, will the plants that result be 'new' or just a clone of the tired parent?

They will be "new" better choppers, more vigorous, less prone to disease......the plant does it to survive.

I've been doing that for years and the new plants are fine. I make a new row next to the old one and this moves them around the veg patch in a sort of rotation

The runners are the new plants the old ones die. The propagate each year

I let mine have two crops each year before composting them, and they produce.
