Remote-controlled minis

These 39-inch-long miniature cars turned the Olympic stadium into something of a Scalextric track when they were used to carry shotputs, hammers and discuses from the field back to the athletes’ starting blocks. Each car, powered by a 10hp electric motor, is capable of carrying a load of up to 8kg and travelled an estimated 6,000 metres each day during the Games. The so-called mini Minis, operated by trained volunteers, can also hold two javelins.
