Prawn Crackers-what exactly?
12 Answers
Just what are they made of and any idea how?
Does anyone actually buy them or are they all given away with orders over £10?
Always seem to get a bag with the delivered takeaway but no one eats many, and I always see bag of them, ready to go,on the heated counter.
Just one of those chippy mysteries that I will probably never solve!
Any thoughts would be fun
Thanks

Usually made with tapioca flour, and very little prawn, if any. Traditionally made into a dough, sliced, then dried in the sun for a day or two. I get Thai ones from my local Chinese supermarket that are quite spicy, and you can actually taste the prawn. The normal takeaway ones tend to be pretty poor by comparison.
I agree with Mosaic about the taste, and as I am non too keen on the taste of prawns,I think I will skip the homemade version.Interesting though,to know what they are supposed to be,Chinese chiefs must hate themselves when they cook the chippy version ;)
Wonder how much a bag of them things actually costs, funny how they don't appear on the menu.
