Why are 'Nice' biscuits called what they are?

The same reason that i am called Matthew, the person who made me (in this case my parents) decided i should be called this, the guy who made nice biscuits was called Charles deSnellder, and he called them "nice"

I have a vague memory that they are named for the place on the Riviera and that Queen Victoria comes into it somehow. Any advances?

Should the question really be are the called 'Nice' as in thats a Nice biscuit or as in the place Nice in france (of course both pronounced differently) I have always called them after the french town therefore would guess they were named after that.

gilf, you are correct. I've searched and searched and found they are made by a company called Arnott's. Here is what they have to say about them: This is an unmistakable biscuit with its sprinkled sugar topping and crisp texture. Nice biscuits have been a family favourite since 1922. Named after the city in the south of France, Nice biscuits were considered to be a sophisticated treat to have with morning or afternoon tea.
