I bought a new house phone yesterday

It is going to be several days before I can get it up and running, it has more faffin bits and pieces than my laptop. the buttons make no sense too, instead of a green button it says 'talk' FGS, that could mean anything. does it mean i talk or they talk? the instructions are in tiny writing too.
