Adobe Reader Download
12 Answers
Hope somebody out there can answer this for me as I need to open pdf files. I've downloaded Adobe Reader Setup and when I go to run it a window opens with 'Welcome to the Setup Wizard Adobe Reader' and a list of 3 ticked boxes come up asking to: Install Babylon Toolbar; Make Babylon search my homepage on my browser; Make Babylon my default search engine. Do I accept some, all or none of these boxes as once I accept it says I'm giving permissions for changes to be made to certain things on my laptop? Please help this particular luddite or will I end up taking it to the computer shop for them to install it for me?

Try downloading the reader from http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/reader.html
Personally I wouldn't even bother with adobe reader, it's huge and bloated for the simple job it does. Foxit PDF reader does the same job and is far smaller, therefore meaning it loads much faster.

More and more programs these days try to get you to use stuff you don't want, and to get into your system.
You have to look at each loading screen very carefully, spot the little tick boxes and untick them.
Even then, there are plenty of sites who try to get you to pay for free programs by misleading screen design.
It's the Wild West, innit?

I dont think you have downloaded adobe pdf reader, you have downloaded some other program (babylon toobar).
Or you have downloaded a version of Adobe reader that has been "rebundled" with other software (like babylon toolbar), by another company (not Adobe).
You have to be very careful when downloading software, particulalry free software, as often web sites that offer free software to download also take adverts from companies to include THEIR software on the site.
You see a big box saying "DOWNLOAD NOW" and in fact you click on it and finish updownloading a totally different bit of software.
The software you DO want to download is possibly hidden in one corner of the page.
You should try to either download software from a genuine site (Adobe site) or a well known download site like FileHippo or CNET (or others).

Very good. In that case, you most definitely DO want to allow it to make changes to your computer, otherwise it won't be able to install itself.
Take particular care, though, not to check any of the optional installations. I can't remember precisely, but I think it tries to install the Ask.com toolbar - don't install that. It won't do you any hard - you just don't need it.
