If you have any other phones, try using them in the socket and see if this fixes it. If this works, and it's only the wire from the wall socket to the phone that's damaged, this might detatch at the phone, and could be replaced.
Its between the street and the socket so not easily fixed.
And yes it IS lucky she didnt have a go at a power cable.Though to be fair I usually make sure everything is out of her reach .I just didnt think about the cable that ran along the skirting board and which was obviously just the thing for a puppy to amuse herself with in prising it out to chew on.
NTL has a clause in our contract (may not be the same for yours) that all maintenance and service will be carried out by them, but their install service is such a shambles that they wouldn't know if you moved the whole house.
Our cable from the street is twin coax, one going to telephone (wires only twisted together by install guy, I fixed this when I moved the box) and one going to the set-top box. It's not a multicore cable.
