Losing body fat without losing muscle mass.If you want to lose your gut, don't think of lifting weights as an option; consider it a requirement.

No, they can't!

They're completely different types of tissue, with no more chance of changing one to the other than there is of changing lead to gold.
Some years ago I 'ran to fat'. :-(
It just a phrase used for when someone takes on an exercise regime. Turning fat to muscle simply means losing fat and toning up.
I'm still running sandy and trying to stop. :-(

"Slimmers" use the phrase to justify weight gain through excersise with the premise that muscle is heavier than fat! So should they continue to 'work out'?

I would say- of course, although I'm not convinced that it is a valid reason for weight gain....
It can happen, I've gained 1 kg and reduced my % fat from 20 to 15 so I have gained weight and lost fat.
