I just worked out I'd have to do 64 lengths of the pool to have swam/swum/swimmed a mile.

Today I struggled with 14 :(

Ya bo sucks.

Well I say I struggled with 14 but what I should have said was I struggled with them all. I just got to 14 before I felt it was best to stop before I died.
Must be something to do with the water Evian.
They make it that much more difficult to swim in these days.
Don't worry, just do it regularly and you'll be grand. When I first started swimming regularly (a little while ago), I struggled with fifteen, by the end of a couple of months I could easily do 50 in under an hour. Now if I went back to doing it regularly again I reckon I'd struggle to do ten initally but I know with regularity it'd come back. Don't be despondent :c)
I'm in the same league as BOO. I am meant to be swimming for health reasons and I hate it!! I am one of those that can't stand getting my face under the water so I do a sedate sort of breast stroke across a width. I just don't like being in water - I don't even like getting in a bath!!
I'm very envious for even 14 lengths :) Well done .
Gone are my days of mega swimming ....
I can't even run for a bus these days ..haha..
I think 10 would be me aiming high, I'd worry my hip was going to pop out! I'm an 80 year old trapped in a 33 year olds body.... actually a fit 80 year old would put me to shame.... <sigh>
The big mistake people make with distance swimming is thinking it's a race.... keep it slow and steady and you should be able to go forever.
What's 'running' Shaney!!! I seem to remember doing something called running many, many years ago. These days I struggle to hobble!! :o(

And as for hips, China. Don't go there....................................
64 lengths?! I didn't think it would be that much! I used to love swimming too.... I need my own pool lol!
I miss the days when I could do three+ lengths underwater, last time I tried I could barely manage 1.5
Yep ..it's the old hips ...I'd get half way down the pool and sieze up :)
Just do 15 tomorrow 16 the day after, it will get easier if you stick at it.

If you had done 64 today, you probably would be put off going again when you woke up in the morning stiff as a board.
I could do that Chuck, I have switched to breadths now.
''I miss the days when I could do three+ lengths underwater''

Not really that impressive is it as with outstretched arms and legs you're around 11ft in length ;-p
Good point snags ....... taking into account I have further to swim ..... I win

Aahh, I'm not the only one. Hallelujah!

Chuck, your comment about going slowly made me laugh. Only because when I was overtaken by a floating pair of goggles I realised just how slow I am. In fairness I haven't done any proper swimming since I left middle school but I'm going to try and keep it up as I've really enjoyed it the past few times.
