second hand iphone 4s

I recently bought a second hand 4s without a sim because i was told it would accept my virgin sim but it turns out this isn't the case because the 4s uses micro sim.Does anyone know how to find out what network the 4s is on if it has no sim?Feeling abit of a dumbass right now!!

Contact virgin and ask them for a microsim

(or it is possible to cut a normal sized sim down to microsim size if you're careful, the extra part is just empty plastic)

You can buy a cutter from ebay for a couple of pounds. Very easy to do.
