i need basil and oregano for a soup i am making but i have no basil can i replace that with something similar

When in doubt I chuck in some mixed herbs, with something like a soup or stew it doesn't really make a great deal of difference.

Thanks for that useful link, ubasses. Just wondered if that is an American website as it mentions cilantro. I think that's what we call coriander! (Cilantro is coriander in Spanish, too)
