Children in pubs- in sight of the bar

I seem to remember a law that children were OK in pubs if they were in a separate area from the bar. Over this weekend, and more often than in the past, toddlers were running around screaming in my local pubs. The parents weren't eating, just drinking and ignoring the kids. Is there a law does anyone know? I'm not being grumpy but it would be handy to be armed with a statute if I had to confront a landlord! Thanks. Dave.

The old ways were better. They were given a packet of crisps and made to sit outside in all kinds of weather while the parents got on with the serious business.
sandyr, we sat on the steps of the pub, got bored mostly, happy with the pop and crisps, but not when it started tiddling down. then we were shoved into a dark alcove, and no one ever asked us if we were alright, they just assumed that we were. My gran was a bit of a tartar, and no one was going to spoil her fun
Children in pubs? Scandalous. But what about women, eh? In my younger days, no woman went into one. Now the other half insists upon coming too. Peace and quiet? There's no escape!
Absolutely no problem with well behaved people (which includes both adult and children) in pubs. I do have a problem with badly behaved people in pubs (both adult and children). That goes for anywhere, not just pubs!
Dave, you should look at the Licensing Act 2003, you may be disappointed.
Even in the late 70's i was left in the car and brought out a Britvic orange and bag of crisps.
LOL I was going to add I spent hours and hours in cars or in the hallway of pubs with coke and crisps as a child.

Bloody hell, I'm glad I don't frequent pubs any more. Next the buggers will be wanting the vote!
No way! Really? lol

Sorry B00, that made me laugh...
lol yeah really ummmm, if we ever went out for the day, that was their treat if you will to finish the day off, a pint in a pub. I was left in the car and brought out a bag of crisps and a Britvic, i insisted on the Britvic. I never minded, didn't notice that it was out of the ordinary and it was usually only for an hour or thereabouts.
took grandchildren to one of those new type pubs with eating facilities and an outside play area. The prices for soft drinks, 6 orange juices cost more than 3 pints of Pedigree. Not taking them to pubs again until they are old enough to drink beer, and buy their own.
Luckily my Mum has never drank. She was happy enough for my dad to take us on a pub crawl though.
