Sorry also meant to say, we got a new hub a few weeks ago and he wondered if that may have anything to do with the problem.

If its a new Virgin Media hub maybe this problem. Put on hub using button under hub wait until lights settle 2 mins. If you have blue light, green, then no other colored buttons WIFI is not on. Press large button on side of hub and hold in for 6 seconds third light will show WIFI is on then.
