"The sender has requested a response to indicate that you have read this message. Would you like to send a receipt?......Yes...No."
Consequently, a Yes response will assure one that the e/mail has been delivered, but is not a guarantee that the recipient has actually read the communication.
If you say what system you use for sending e/mails, I will do a little further research on the matter. In the meanwhile have a read of the following:-
http:// email.a bout.co ...dows _Live_M ail_OE. htm

Also, if the person has read it in the preview pane and not actually opened the mail, this will not count as a read.
I ALWAYS say no to "The sender has requested a response to indicate that you have read this message. Would you like to send a receipt?......Yes...No." unless I see they have sent it to more than 50 people, in which case I click yes, hoping everyone does the same to fill their inbox to serve them right for demanding to know when I have read it.
