It now seems they are actually being given 60 days to find new sponsors for their visas.. I don't know whether that means they need to find a new course or whether there is some other way of getting a sponsor.
Sixty days leaves enough time for some sort of compromise i expect- maybe a few hundred to be deported, a fine to be paid, a resignation by a senior member of the university, an apology, and some good publicity for the government who will show they are clamping down on abuse of immigration controls.
