Yes, it is major 6th. The only thing is that if A is the tonic note then it would be F sharp, rather than G flat - same note, different name.

How many letters please. Scale?
Major sixth
^ Could be what rojash says. I have no idea
Question Author
Many thanks factor30 and rojash. No letters, just a two-word answer. Thanks again.
Is it a quiz then?
Anyway all I can suggest now is that you google Major 6th and Minor 7th and see which fits the bill
Question Author
thank you factor30. Yes it is a quiz and I have googled both answers and have decided on minor seventh. Thanks again.
A minor 7th would be A flat to G flat or A to G.

Thank you mike11111. I'll go with you.
I think Mike's saying Minor 7th isn't quite right
Could it be "diminished seventh"?
Yes, it is major 6th. The only thing is that if A is the tonic note then it would be F sharp, rather than G flat - same note, different name.
You gave yourself best answer, heather - that's a new one :-)
A minor or diminished 7th is from the tonic to a whole tone below the octave. In OP's example the range is from the tonic to one and a half tones below the octave.

Major 6th it is then. Thank you all for your help. New to this site but hope to use it again.
Welcome heatherglen - we hope you'll like it (although you do seem to have been here for a while, according to your profile :-)
