Free Schools

Keep on hearing about "Free Schools" on the news.
Confused as to what they are ?
Free Schools I hear you say.
How do these differ from when I was at school in the 70's ?
Then you had free education at the local Comprehensive or your parents sent you to a Public school and paid a fee each term.

So why are these called Free Schools and how do hey differ from the current Free Schools (Comprehensives ) ?

They are schools which are paid for by taxpayers money like all state schools but are not actually run by the local authority....they are free to any one and you don't have to have an entry exam....they can be set up by anyone such as a bunch of parents...businesses etc....the difference in one aspect is that the children of the founders get preference for entry....

Not sure if that covers it but it's the general idea....conceived by the Tories a few years ago...not sure how successful they are...

I would say Free of the State might be the answer to your question..comprehensives are not.....
