I'm annoyed that being a new member I am unable to give myself an avatar for another two weeks, the relevant posts I can understand but why do I have to wait.
I'm sure there's a resonable explanation but I just don't understand please explain!

Or to be serious... The reasonable explanation is because, that's how it is.

The site suffers from outbreaks of 'Troll' - making everyone wait for a couple of weeks prevents the idiots from getting 'unsuitable' avatars.

Unfortunately this catches out 'proper' new members too ...

Please can some kind person point me in the right direction for cahnging my Avatar? I have clicked the 'Activate Avatar' box in my profile, and I have an Avatar registered at Gravatar.com, but I don't know what to do next - any suggestions or advice appreciated.

P.S. I've been a member for a couple of years now, and I'm still not annoyed - does this make me unsuitable?

Many thanks to all - mamyalynne, ABerrant, excelsior-1 and craft1948. I had registered with a different email address at Gravatar, and just needed to add the address I used for Answerbank - doh! Now all is solved, I am speechless!!
