ooh yes, everyone at primary school knew that it's bad luck to open them upside down!

i always do it, like zipadeedodah i know its unlucky if you open them the wrong way up lol
I agree - I don't 'have' to because I always open them the right way up anyway! It wouldn't even enter my head to open them 'upside down'. Ok, so maybe I am weird too...
Your question really answers itself! You refer to the 'correct' way up which obviously implies that anything else is 'incorrect'! (i.e. it shouldn't be done).

I always ensure that my crisp packets are the 'correct' way up. It's just the same as always opening a Mars bar's packaging by tearing off the paper at the left-hand-end. Anything else should be made a criminal offence!

Similarly, I've addressed (by hand) several dozen envelopes before now only to find that I'd put the opening at the right-hand-end rather than the left. Result? Several dozen envelopes straight into the bin!

There has been a serious academic study which looked into the different types of personalities associated with the way that someone fits a toilet roll onto a holder. (i.e. should it 'overhang' or 'underhang'). I know that the study managed to attribute different personality types to each preference but I can't remember what they were! (Anyway, it's obvious. It's got to 'underhang'!).

Chris
Hi Chris, you are obviously completely wrong and the latest research has shown the the correct way to put toilet rolls is - ''Underhang'' in the northern hemisphere and ''Overhang'' in the Southern hemisphere, it's to do with the coriollis effect and stuff like that, and the scientist are now saying that due to so many people putting them the wrong way in each hemisphere this is what is causing all the effects on weather patterns previously attributed to global warming.

Qapmoc - that was funny

Buenchio - you were right when you put the flap on the right when you addressed the envelopes, it's incorrect to put the flap on the left. It's one of those things that annoy me (like opening crisps upside down!) and I always think that any firm that sends me anything with the flap on the left is unprofessional.
its always better to open your crisps upside down they have been packed that way so if you open that way more flavor
I'm afraid I'm with spudqueen -
No idea what happened there - my partial answer suddenly wasn't there any more! I was going to say, I'm with spudqueen - envelope flaps should definitely be on the right (except when they're envelopes that open at the top, of course!). And Mars bars are unwrapped from the right-hand end (ie the "s" end, not the "M" end) aren't they? T'other way seems unnatural to me.
I would automatically open a Mars bar from the left hand end...it's like the top in a way isn't it?! And what are you talking about? Toilet roll should "overhang" it's only logical surely!?
I never open crisps upsidedown, I always hang my toilet roll so it hangs over the top but I always put the opening to the right when addressing envelopes unless the flap is at the back of course
oh and i always open chocolate wrappers at the right hand side too (i am right handed dont know if thats owt to do with it)
I was involved in a nasty incident during childhood. I opened a pack of crisps (to which I had been looking forward all morning) the "wrong way up" and, following impecable logic, they all fell out upwards and drifted away. Let that be a warning...
i always write envelopes with the flap on the right, but send packages (padded envelope things) with the flap on the left, not sure why, habit i guess.

toilet roll should always underhang, cos its easier to pull out then when it over hangs, if its overhung and on one of just bits of wood holders it normally has a tendancy to fly off in my experience

I always have the pack the right way up, otherwise the crisps end up on the floor!

As for envelopes, it's not unnatural or incorrect to have the open end on the left it's just lefthanded! It may be unusual but to us lefties it is second nature.

Criminalising the opening of Mars bars at the lefthand edge would be discrimination and could result in lots of casualty departments being overcrowded with lefties with sprained wrists, trying to avoid prosecution!
