Someone suggested what the "items behaving thematically" actually were and until I saw that I didn't really get this Listener. Turns out to be quite delightful after all!
I liked this well constructed puzzle. However, I spent more time than I might have, wondering what, other than the obvious, connected the items yielding by the omissions from the across clues. I might have been spared that particular journey had the preamble said "items, each of which behaves thematically", rather than "behaving thematically", since the theme (both the thing that connects the start and finish and the drawer), is singular, not plural. Incidentally, can anyone well trained in the theme say whether they think the title of the piece should have been A3, rather than A1?
From the looks of things, it could be either - interesting idea Staurologist. I had in mind the more obvious when I saw A1, so maybe it has a double meaning.
Borealis, well spotted. A very droll touch
....... and the setter's name (pronounced appropriately) is quite apposite too.
@Percy(vera) - yes, I thought that
@Staurologist - both are relevant, though your suggestion would have been more misleading
