When we are on holiday in the UK we use an O2 dongle Is it possible to get something similar for holidays in Europe, and if so, how much do they cost?

Well you certainly can in Spain, Vodafone is probably the bst and costs around £30 payg. The trouble being that they do not always work in all areas (or work at all come to that!) but yes they are available, also there is a lot of wifi in Spain you just have to ask for the passwords, most bars and hotels have it now.
