customer was complaining that an order hadn't arrived, she was talking on her mobile phone the whole time (in a foreign language i didn't understand) and was not even looking at me whilst i investigated the delay. I stopped talking to her as she was talking on her phone and not even looking at me. She looked at me after a second or so and said, 'go on' and I replied 'I'm sorry I couldn't hear you I was talkng', she smirked and said something else into her phone that I didn't understand and then, as we had a large queue I said in almost a shout, 'Would you care to come back when you have finished your conversation?' and shouted 'Next please'. She stomped off, when she came back she was right arsy, what would you have done? (either as me or as her)
I stopped using my corner shop when I was served by the chap speaking on his mobile phone. I did tell him why.
The only customers I deal with now are at charity events and I won't serve anyone on a mobile phone. It's too rude and ignorant.
For all you know, she may have been asking on behalf of the person she was speaking to on the 'phone and she was telling her what you were saying to her.
i agree with nox... (as usual haha and a few others, that you were wrong
and you didnt explain it properly in your first post - you sounded like you were just annoyed that she had the audacity to have to have a important call while she with you.
persumably she had been queueing up and maybe the call was one she couldnt ignore - you dont know that.
i totally undertsand you getting annoyed at her though - i would have too... but shouting at her is a bit much .. however what you actually said was right - i would politely but firmly have told her she should come back after her call.
Just because you work in customer services doesn't mean you have to be treated badly by a customer who probably wouldn't dream of being rude to you under other circumstances, so why should you have ro put up with it in your job? I'm with you on this one dotty, she was being rude, and you're only human.
Well looks like Jo public are for the best part saying you are the one that is being rude..Most like they are themselves like this other person you mention when they go into shops..
Get it Dotty good luck with your so so rude customers
I worked in retail all my working life and the general public can be a pain in the backside .I know I'm a member of that public too but when I go into shops politeness and manners cost nothing .I know just what it's like to be on your feet all day and then get snotty customers .
I used to get ones who jabbered away on their mobis whilst pointing at what they wanted as if you had a crystal ball behind the counter ..I 'd have done exactly what Dot did.
Sometimes you have to shout or they all just stand there looking dozy :)
The trick is to give a look of exasperation at the long-suffering customer in the queue behind her. If that customer was anything like me he would gallantly step forward and relieve you of any responsibility by telling said lady exactly where should could stick her mobile, at the same time gallantly offering, as any gentleman would do, to assist her if she found the process somewhat anatomically challenging.
just because someone is offering a service to a customer doesn't mean they have the right to treat you with total disrespect especially as you were trying to rectify the problem and inform her what was going on. good on you dotty. i would of done the same!
