Worse for parents than the offspring! My only child went to boarding school at 11 (his choice). I was bereft. Never felt so ill. It will take time, but you will cope. There is no easy solution. Just try and keep busy and, whatever you do, don't keep texting or phoning them. Good luck.

well it's quite easy for me to cope with your son going to uni - i just don't think about it
just remember your son is going to educate him and fufil his life as young man, and although you may miss him greatley just remember sometimes you have to let the young ones do their 'test flight' before they leave the nest...
god how old am in my 20's seems so wrong for me.
my baby left last week to start a new job in dundee,i miss him like ?ell, but the good news he is on his way home for the week end,to be honest i quite enjoyed the 'me'time, the thing is not only was it my son but the dog as well..
there was an answer removed from here, was it it spam or abuse either way THANK F00k

My son got top grades at A level and I brought him up to be independent, but its so hard when they leave home!
Sell the house and move abroad without telling him............
Probably worse if it's only child. It was for me. By the time he went to university I had got used to it. 7 years after going to boarding school. You will cope. Come on AB and have chats to cheer yourself up!
Your son is lucky, my mother couldn't wait.
I know how you feel. When my eldest went off to uni I felt physically ill. Admitedly she went half way across the world but it was the most terrible wrench. Poor you look forward to the visits home.
Now come along, a parent's real job is to equip the offspring to walk off and be happy.
You had a life before the chid, now rebuild that life. And be strong and happy.
Mine too, place is very empty and quiet.Taking him there was like taking him to school on his first day when he was 4.Definitely suffering with 'empty nest' syndome but life goes on,..just the next stage.
I'm with Craft, lol.
Get some pussy cats to keep you company. They are cheaper to keep than kids and they catch mice and also they do not very often go to Cat University.

By the way, I am being serious and not joking for once.
I have got 2 pussycats, they are lovely and smell better (lol) but not quite the same! At least my son didn't rip up the carpet and bring half-dead mice in!
