splitting oil tanks

did'nt know where to ask this, but if my oil tank split and let the oil out what the hell would I do, and who should I tell? I never even thought about this till I went to a scrap yard and was told that all the tanks there were ones that were over 12 years old and had split, and I have had mine 14years.

you would probably have to have the land remediated. the environment agency?

Forewarned is forearmed.
If tanks do split and yours is old, why wait for a disaster. Prevent it by investing in a replacement tank now.
I know what I would do.

technically yes you do have to report.

If in doubt replace a 1200l double-skin plastic tank is about £900 installed, given that you already have a bund or protected area and a concrete base/concrete RSJs for it to sit on. That also includes a telemetric alarm for indicating when the tank is getting low and then when it is really low.

thank you so much, I will look into replacing my tank asap, can't even imagine having it split open as it is next to the wall of the house, touching it in fact, having oil seep into the foundations don't bear thinking about, kept me awake all night worrying about it.
